Hello Healthy Home Friends,
Do you ever wake up and feel like you've been hit by a Mack truck, and it takes you forever to clear out your head? It's stuffy, you can't breathe? It takes forever to wake up. Do your children ever experience this?
There may be an explanation for this!
It's called dust mite allergies. For people with dust mite allergies, it can disrupt their sleep and compromise their health.
The food for a dust mite is your shed skin cells. If you sleep with an animal, it means even more food.
We lose moisture every night and even up to a pint a night. This moisture goes into your mattress, creating a moist environment. Dust mites thrive in a dark, damp environment with skin cells. It's how they grow. The older the mattress, the more dust mites you will have. As this vicious cycle goes on and on.
They crawl all over you, your eyes, ears, nose, everywhere. It's no wonder you don't feel well in the mornings.
They now have videos on YouTube featuring microscopic dust mites crawling all over the body. It is just repulsive.
For a person to feel good and have lots of energy, they have to get their restorative sleep. When you have a dust mite allergy, it interferes with good quality sleep. A person can only go so far with a lack of good sleep.
The lack of sleep accumulates until you feel very unwell.
The good news is you can change this!!
I helped many people in my store with dust mite allergies, and the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. I had many parents come back to the store with stories of their children's improved sleep and well being. It was a wonderful experience. When you restore someone's sleeping habits and they feel better, it's a win-win.
Here are the steps I would recommend:
- First, start with your pillow. The pillows should be from organic wool or latex. These are pillows that dust mites can't live in. They can't live.
- Encase your mattress and boxspring with a dust mite encasement.
- Wash all bedding in hot water at least once a week.
If you do this and have a dust mite allergy, I can promise you will feel significantly better.
If that is not in the budget, at least try to start with a new pillow. One of the ways to determine if you have this allergy is by noticing how you feel when you travel and stay in a hotel. For example, pay attention to whether you feel refreshed and better than when you sleep at home. That is a sure way to tell if it's the ugly dust mite.
